Scenario
User creates a Sales Order for a Lot-Numbered Item in Qty of 5. The item has only 5 available quantity on hand. Upon fulfillment of the order, user needs to ship more than 5 quantity.
User has enabled the Allow Overage on Item Fulfillment preference by navigating to Setup > Accounting > Accounting Preferences > Order Management tab > Fulfillment section. However, they could still not fulfill more than the available quantity of the lot-numbered item.
Solution
The Allow Overage on Item Fulfillment preference is not applicable for Lot-Numbered or Serialized Inventory Items. This is because a Lot or Serial Number is required when recording Item Fulfillment transactions for Lot/Serialized Inventory Item. This is a validation designed within the system to prevent negative Lot or Serial Number quantities.
Note: The preference is applicable up to the extent of the Quantity Available. If the excess will cause negative Lot then an error message will be encountered thus prohibiting the negative quantity.
Should the user wants to proceed with the fulfillment, the option is to create a positive Inventory Adjustment designating the same Lot/Serial Numbers that will be used in the Item Fulfillment. In recording the Inventory Adjustment, it is ideal to set the date earlier than the transaction date of the fulfillment transaction.
