Scenario
A user notices that there is no GL Impact of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) in a stand-alone Invoice.
Solution
A. If a stand-alone Invoice has no GL impact on COGS, please check if the Quantity on Hand is zero for all items, then that may be the reason for the lack of GL impact on COGS.
If there are available quantities, you may follow the following steps:
B. Create an Inventory Valuation Detail Report for the Location on the Invoice
1. Navigate to Reports > Inventory/Items > Inventory Valuation > Customize Summary
2. Click the Filters tab
3. Set the Date field to = is Between xx/xx/xxxx – creation date of the Invoice
4. Expand Quantity on Hand > expand Location > select Name > set value to location on the Invoice
5. Expand Inventory Item > select Name > select all Inventory Items found on the Invoice
6. Click Preview
Notice that On Hand column is empty.
On the date the Invoice was created, there was no item on hand. This is the reason why there is no GL impact on COGS.
There must be Quantity Available at the creation date of standalone Invoices to have COGS impact.
