The first time you log in to JCurve, you are prompted to answer three security questions. These answers are used to verify your identity if you forget your password or if you log in from a new browser or a new computer. You can click the Remind Me Later button to dismiss this prompt. However, the next time you log in you will be prompted again to set up these questions. You can dismiss this prompt 5 times.
JCurve does not often prompt you to answer a security question, so it is easy to forget you set them up. Once you save your security questions and answers, a confirmation popup displays. Also, an email is sent to the email address you used to log in, as notification that this setup has occurred.
Note: You have the option of changing your security questions and answers at a later time (see instructions toward the end of this article).
Requirements for Security Answers:
If any of these requirements are not met, you will receive an error when you attempt to save security answers.
- You must answer all three questions.
- Each answer must be unique.
- Each answer must be at least three characters long.
- You cannot use your email address or password as an answer.
Note: Answers are not case-sensitive.
When Security Questions are asked:
In the following cases you will be prompted to answer a security question before you can log in to JCurve:
- When you attempt to log in using a new browser, when using a browser in private mode, or when you log in from a new or different computer.
- When you forget your JCurve password, and need to reset it.
- If it has been more than 90 days since your last login.
If you answer the security question correctly, your login to JCurve proceeds and an email is sent to the email address you used to log in, as notification of the successful authentication.
If you provide six consecutive wrong answers to the security question, you are locked out of JCurve for a period of 30 minutes, and an email is sent to your email address and to your account administrator, as notification of the authentication failure.
If you forget your Security Questions and Answers:
If you are attempting to log in to JCurve, and are prompted to answer a security question but cannot remember the answer you gave, you may need to ask your account administrator to reset your password.
If an account administrator resets your password, your previously saved security questions are erased and you must setup these questions and answers again. If you reset your own password, the existing security questions and answers are maintained.
To deal with forgotten Security Questions:
- You have six attempts to answer the questions, try the most likely answer you would have given.
- If the first attempt does not succeed, try again. Keep trying the most logical answers to your security questions.
Tip: Remember, security question answers are not case sensitive, so do not waste an attempt by simply changing some characters to a different case.
Note: After the sixth failed attempt, you and your account administrator will be notified by email that your account is locked. To avoid being locked out of your account, ask your administrator for a password reset after five attempts to answer the existing security questions.
- Ask your account administrator to reset your password, which will also erase the existing security questions and answers.
- Follow the instructions from your account administrator for completing your password reset.
- Set up new security questions and answers.
Create or change your existing Security Questions and Answers:
- From the Home screen.
- Navigate to the Settings Portlet and click Update Security Questions.
- Follow the instructions to create or change your Security Questions (as per the below screenshot).
