Scenario

Best Practices for Designing HTML templates for use with Marketing Campaigns and Email Templates.

Solution

  1. Plan and design the layout before writing the code. Remember that all assets and elements in the page is laid out in blocks of squares or rectangles, like a Spreadsheet, take note and take advantage of this.
  2. Once the layout is completed, and images for the HTML template are available, upload the images for use with the HTML. If an external server is not available to upload the images to, upload the images to NetSuite's File Cabinet, take note of their corresponding URLs, and ensure thatAvailable Without Loginis checked to make the images public.
  3. When choosing the codes to use for the HTML layout, choose the simplest and most standards compliant HTML code. This includes, but is not limited to, avoiding: DIV tags, SPAN tags, external CSS references, JavaScript and/or linking to Active X objects like Flash SWF files, QuickTime MOV files, or Acrobat PDF files. Remember, mail readers are not browsers, most of them are not capable of reading very complex HTML codes.
  4. Always consider that recipient may not, or even will choose not to, display images on their mail reader. Make the point evident in the copy or text in the email and use images as a secondary medium of communication.
